Detailed Listing of Newspaper and Periodical Titles - Part 4

The table below provides a list of over 310 titles. This reveals the quantity and diversity of Newspapers and Periodicals regularly examined and reported on by the authorities. The period 1897-1937 saw a huge increase in number of these types of publications, often highly critical of government policy and vocalising emergent nationalist sentiments. Reel 29 of Part 4 of this project is full of long lists of titles for each year 1925-1933. For instance, please see the Statement for 1925 which runs to 84 pages of information. It provides name of newspaper or periodical, language of publication, place of publication and press at which printed, frequency (daily/weekly or otherwise), cost of annual subscription, circulation, details on proprietor, editor, publisher and printer, as well as general remarks on content, tone and influence. There are lists for each year in similar detail. There are also similar lists for titles that were not examined that year.

The table here is largely drawn from the lists of titles examined in 1925 and 1926.
