AFRICA THROUGH WESTERN EYES
Part 3: Papers of Cameron, Cruikshank, Livingstone, Moffatt, Park and Stanley from the National Library of Scotland
The third and fourth parts of this project are based on the rich holdings of the National Library of Scotland. The strength of their holdings should come as no surprise as Scots have played a central role in the European exploration of Africa from Mungo Park to David Livingstone and beyond. Part 3 offers rich sources for:
- South Africa
- the Congo
Key figures represented are David Livingstone (1813-1873); Robert Moffat (1795-1883); Mungo Park (1771-1806); Verney Lovett Cameron (1844-1894); and Brodie Cruikshank (1814-1854). There are also Boer War letters and diaries.
